vs. Badshot Lea - May 3 Headley hosted Badshot Lea and eased to a comfortable 100 run victory, after a inconsistent performance in the field had led to Badshot Lea chasing more than they should. Headley had won the toss and on a true pitch elected to bat first, but got off to a slow start as Wilson and Gray caused some early problems. Both openers went with 16 on the board and this brought Ciaran Rooney and Gavin Arend together for the pivotal stand of the game. Both rode their luck and a key moment came when Rooney was dropped at mid off by Francis, who twisted his ankle in the process and had to miss the rest of the game. On his return to the club, all rounder Arend scored a hard hitting 82, but both he and Rooney offered a number of chances. Some positive batting down the order led to an early declaration after 40 overs with 186 on the board. With Francis missing from the top order, Badshot Lea were always up against it, but made a positive start before Graham Badland made a couple of breakthroughs. Smith was looking positive, but played one too many shots as Badland bowled him and Rooney held a fine catch to dismiss Heath. With the middle order exposed, the change bowlers were able to make their way through the rest of the order, helped by fine catches by Shane Armstrong, Lewis Davies and Andy Clarke, before Davies wrapped up the victory in the 25th over. |
