vs. Grayshott II - June 28 Headley slumped to a third successive defeat after an abject batting display gifted a victory to Grayshott II. Chasing a par score of 183 to win, only 2 Headley batsmen made it double figures and opening batsmen George Williams’ knock of 44 made up over 50% of the total. Grayshott’s bowlers maintained admirable discipline, but their attack was not the most threatening and it was a performance that the visitors will want to forget in a hurry. Earlier in the day, the Headley bowlers had not done a great deal better, as they fielded first on a typically low bouncing Grayshott wicket. Grayshott opener Maisey chanced his arm and was able to hit a quickfire 50, before eventually being dismissed for 61. His dismissal led to Headley briefly taking charge of the game, as opening bowler Clive Bate took 4 wickets to leave Grayshott at 117 for 7, but Roberts marshalled the tail well to take this side to 182. The game looked well set, but after a solid enough start, Healdey began to falter. At 72 for 2, the game looked well balanced, but the dismissal of Williams, unluckily playing on, led to a stunning collapse as 8 wickets went down for 12 runs and Grayshott were able to claim maximum points. |
