vs. Lindford - April 26

Headley had the better of the local derby against Lindford, but couldn’t quite do enough to force a victory, as Lindford opener Stewart Henderson carried his bat in the second innings to take his side to safety. Headley were asked to bat first on a typically slow, early season wicket, but Ashley Cook and Shane Armstrong got off to solid start, with Cook in particular taking an early shine to opening bowler Andy Lee. It soon became clear that the wicket would not suite the quicker bowlers and slow bowlers Trevor Lee and skipper Karsten Waller were able to apply the brake and break the opening stand. Headley were able to push on and useful contributions down the order meant they could declare after 46 overs with 160 on board, with Waller taking 4 wickets and Lee 2.

Headley opening bowlers Graham Badland and Clive Bate were able to exert greater control than their Lindford counterparts, with Bate striking in the 6th over and 19 runs coming off the first 10 overs. Henderson and Waller looked capabale of putting together a telling partnership, but Waller, having one big 6 with the wind behind, tried to repeat the dose at the other end and was caught on the boundary. The game then looked to be heading for a dull draw, but 3 wickets from the 36th over (1 run out and 2 for Badland, including an outstanding slip catch from George Williams) left Lindford 98 for 7. Henderson, however, stood firm throughout and with Lee, they batted out time to secure a draw for Lindford.
