vs. Peper Harrow - June 7

Headley dominated their game against Peper Harrow from start to finish as they won by 103 runs. A Headley pitch with more pace than has been the case for several years allowed the batsmen to get on top early after Peper Harrow had won the toss. Ashley Cook again looked very solid from the start and although he lost George Williams with 26 runs on the board, skipper Ciaran Rooney joined him for a match defining partnership of 106. Both men took advantage of the wide spaces and punished any loose balls that were served up. They both brought up 50’s, but were unable to push on to anything more substantial, but the rest of the order contributed and allowed a declaration to be made after 42 overs.

Peper Harrow needed a good start to be in with a chance, but Ashley Canning made an early breakthrough during a consistently probing new ball spell. Clive Bate then joined his opening partner in the wicket column and he added another couple, one after an excellent slip catch by Cook. With the new ball supplying 4 wickets, skipper Rooney turned to leg spinner Gavin Arend and he gradually worked through the rest of the Peper Harrow order to record his first 5 wicket haul since his return to the club at the start of the season, backed up by a flawless catching display.
