vs. Pirbright - July 12

An outstanding all-round display from Pirbright’s Tim Oram was the highlight of an otherwise tedious game against Headley, that was not helped by a 7 over weather delay just after Headley had started batting in the 2nd innings. Batting first, Oram came to the crease with his side struggling on 22 for 3, but he soon tucked into the bowling and made rapid progress towards a 50 in partnership with the more sedate Connery. At 96 for 5, Headley had the sniff of a chance, but Oram found a willing partner in Oakley and moved swiftly to a fine century. He was eventually was dismissed having totalled 114 out of the 154 runs scored during his time at the wicket. Oakley continued swinging away and Pirbright were able to declare after 45 overs on 234.

Oram’s day wasn’t finished as he quickly snapped up Ashley Cook, but then a rain delay caused 7 overs to be lost, meaning that a Headley victory was unlikely. However, Oram and Wright shared 5 wickets to leave Headley in trouble at 62 for 5. Oram’s removal from the attack meant that Pirbright’s change bowlers had to step up, but they were unable to dislodge Headley skipper Ciaran Rooney, who made an undefeated 39, whilst Dom Nott made a more forceful 41as the game petered out to a draw.
