vs. Witley - July 26 Headley won their second game on the trot with a timely 4 wicket victory over fellow promotion chasers Witley. The game initially started disastrously for Headley, who were invited to bowl first, as opening bowler Graham Badland pulled his hamstring with the 3rd ball of the game and was unable to continue. Clive Bate was forced to take over, but was able to make a quick strike to get rid of opener King. Number 3 Cook and White were able to settle into a comfortable partnership as they made good use a slick outfield. The introduction of leg spinner Gavin Arend changed the game as he lured Cook into an error. This brought Keiron Ritchie to the crease and in partnership with White, they looked to launch a counter attack against Arend. However, the leg spinner held his nerve to dismiss them both and the remainder of the innings subsided to 170 all out, which looked about 50 short of a testing total. This looked even more the case as Witley gifted Headley a fast start with Ciaran Rooney and Ashley Cook taking advantage of some wayward early bowling. Cook eventually went for 18 with 56 on the board, but Rooney went on to seal a classy half century and with useful contributions from the rest of the order, Headley were able to ease to victory in the 37th over. |
